The source code of the QCad community edition is released under the GPL (open source). QCad uses the AutoCAD DXF file format internally and to save and import files. QCad works on Windows, OS X, and many Linux and Unix systems. Ribbonsoft does not seem to have any version controlled public repository around, no bugtracking system, they closed down the mailing list and redirect people to the forum where no. Much of the interface and concepts behind use are the same of those of AutoCAD. This software (the community edition) is an interesting case: the source was posted on sourceforge (as QCad and Qcad2) but obsoleted and redirecting to Ribbonsoft. QCad 2, designed to "make QCad more productive, more user friendly, more flexible and increase its compatibility with other products" began development in May 2002. Features include layers, dxf files import and export, many flexible drawing tools and precise selection tools. Compared to the Professional edition it has no scripting or poly-line support - also features are a few months behind. Development on QCad began in October 1999, starting with code from CAM Expert. QCAD Community Edition is free and open source. Precompiled packages are available for some Linux platforms, such as Debian. The QCad Community Edition, which lacks functionality present in the full version, is released under the GNU General Public License and is not (officially) available for MS Windows, though unofficial builds do exist. It supports the DXF format and optionally the DWG format (through a proprietary plugin). The QCad GUI is based on the Qt framework. QCAD is a cross-platform CAD solution for Windows, macOS and Linux. It is available for Linux, Apple Mac OS X, Unix and Microsoft Windows.
